A few months ago I was trying out bottles and virtualbox on my media server (already on mint) with a particular plc-programming program I needed, but I didn’t get anywhere. I don’t remember the issue I was running into specifically. I might have to try again soon though when I have spare time. I’ve always had my gripes with Windows and Microsoft but the last few years of the ai boom they’ve really shit the bed, and it’s really making my job more of a headache than it should be.

Yikes 😬. This prompted me to export and wipe my passwords from edge, which I’ve only kept on my work pc for the rare sites that have issues with non-chromium browsers. They show this warning in the export dialogue:

Your passwords will be visible to anyone who can see the exported file

EDIT: They’ve apparently removed the “Passwords” option from the “Delete browsing data” menu. So now I’m removing my 100s of saved credentials one-by-one manually. Again, I can’t stress this enough, the sheer fucking audacity of this shell of a shell of a tech company.

EDIT 2: I just keep finding stuff. So obviously Microsoft has never let you uninstall edge. That apparently didn’t stop them from hosting this page:

Are you sure you want to uninstall Microsoft Edge?

That’s obviously a rhetorical question, they offer no such option, the page is essentially just an ad. But it was the second result I saw when searching “uninstall ms edge” in duckduckgo. The fact that that page even exists says a lot actually, that enough people are searching for ways to uninstall it that they thought that it was worth it.

On that note, I can’t slap Linux mint on this particular computer because it’s for work and I need to use way too many proprietary windows-only programs to do my job. But does anyone recommend a script or tool for removing edge?

I had the opposite take as that guy. I already knew that Linux usage in desktops was growing, but I’m pleasantly surprised seeing the dramatic acceleration behind it! I’m being optimistic here, but we could reach the point that we start going up a percentage point in a matter of months in the next few years.

Wow. When the cow opens her own latch thing I was thinking “eh, that might’ve been an accident, could’ve been stretching and bumped the latch”. But then she immediately repeats that with the next two stalls?! 🤯

Like you said, that cow clearly knew why she was undoing the latch, it was totally intentional. The other thing that caught my eye is that she knows multiple ways of opening that latch (blindly with her horn from the inside and with her snout from the outside). Imo that further demonstrates an understanding of what she is doing with those latches

I have a 9560, and I’ve personally replaced the ssd, ram, battery (multiple times, both sizes), ac jack, and wireless adapter, plus redid the thermal paste, this all in the 5 or 6 years that I’ve had it. It’s pretty easy to work on, you just need a Phillips and a few sizes of torx. The official service manual is a huge resource there.

My L15 Thinkpad looks comparable too, though I’ve only done the ram it’s also just a matter of removing some screws.

It definitely seems to me like they’re trying a similar strategy to Microsoft’s Surface line or Google’s Pixel line where the main goal isn’t really to outcompete directly, but rather to influence the market by a) proving that the platform is viable and b) providing a blueprint/setting expectations for third-party manufacturers considering getting in on it. I swear I remember valve saying they were open to licensing steam os to third party devices (granted, I dunno if anyone’s taken them up on it), and they obviously want as many people on steam as they can pull off.
