Order in the universe existed on a brief timeline between Darwin and Dawkins.

Maybe I shouldn’t get up and go to work today…
You are so right about that. You deserve a day off. Let me forge a doctor’s note and send it to your boss.
^This will happen exactly one time.

Can I see?

But that’s not who is being targeted with the changes Backblaze has made. By silently excluding sync folders, they’re casting a wide net and hoping it will catch those who use workarounds. It might, but in the process it reveals their comfort with deceptive business practices and harms users of the backup service who are not using workarounds.
Are they boosting their AI business in anticipation of breaking encryption and then training their models on everyone’s data? That’s what I would assume of a company I no longer trust.

How is that abuse? “Unlimited” is a pretty audacious plan to offer. Maybe Backblaze shouldn’t offer something impossible.

You’re resisting because of how the concept of spirituality has been stolen by religion. But in doing so, you’re missing an opportunity to take back the real meaning of the word. Volunteer work gives back to the community, which is an emergent greater power. A local community is more than its GDP: it creates culture, safety, and purpose. The choice to work toward fulfilling this idea at the cost of your time and energy requires faith that your good deeds will have an impact, even if they only affect a single person. When many of us do the same, the net output ends up being powerful beyond the sum of its parts and greater than any of us can individually understand. Is that not the definition of a god?

Moore’s Law isn’t quite dead. And quantum computing is a generation away. Computers will continue getting exponentially faster.

To everyone shitting on the article because of where AI is now: remember how little time passed between will smith spaghetti and sora 2?

AI truly has the capacity to topple billionaire hegemony and democratize/socialize everything. The hype we see from CEOs is a rebranding of their own fear. They want to control this tech so it doesn’t erase their power, which is why they are so invested in concentrating its power in datacenters as well as seeking AGI. Concentrating power is how they control it. It’s the reason they fight everything from unions to OSHA to work from home - these all undermine their power. They view AGI as the magical tool that will be hosted in a datacenter and allow them to maintain control over AI in general. They are flying too close to the sun. We are not the ones who should be afraid.

Now that I see it, I think JD has nailed her.

The subset of human behavior includes predation. It’s in our DNA, whether it is in you or not. It’s this fact we can’t forget or become naive about.

Under- car sensors is a great idea and the kind of innovation required for this tech to reach universal adoption. Waymo is already safer than human drivers IMO but let’s keep going until it’s significantly safer with verifiable data and capabilities humans cannot have. And we have to address its connection to big tech for “safety under fascism” purposes.

Define “good.” I imagine it’s informative but depressing. Does he find space for optimism? For solutions?

It’s not even an unwillingness to admit ignorance: it’s the lack of awareness that there’s already a conversation.
This is the take-home point. They aren’t unaware there’s already a conversation. Their hubris compels them to believe they can answer these questions better than whatever the liberal establishment has come up with.

The models get 0% of the proceeds for one year and then 10% after that. After interviews and photos of the models, they get around to interviewing the CEOs of the companies doing this, and there’s an unchallenged narrative about why it’s fair and not exploitative. Shame on the BBC.

Film them. Phones in every pocket = cameras in every face. Police/ICE/military/whatever is next. They know what side of history they’re on even if they’re just following orders. Remind them that history will remember them individually. The open source surveillance state will prevail.

I could not be more sincere when I say: help us Europe; you’re our only hope.

Starlink is literally his plan to rule the world. If you singularly control access to the internet for everyone, you’ve won the information war… against everyone. The good news is his Nazi addict ass will likely die young from a chest-cavity attack.
Now I feel patronized
