What, you prefer to give your data to Sony, LG, Samsung, or amazon? Like they’re not selling it to anyone with a buck as well? Never connect a TV to the internet, period. After that it doesn’t matter what you buy.

It’s long struck me as odd that land, power, water, and cooling intensive infrastructure doesn’t take root in more remote arctic and sub-arctic locations where the cooling is mitigated, hydro plants exist to provide local power, excess heat can be used for other activities like heating other buildings or greenhouses, and even keeping some water ice-free through the winter has benefit. The big obstacle of course is the fibre plumbing for getting the data to and from the site, but that seems pretty solvable.

Telsat Lightspeed, from the Canadian company that invented commercial domestic satellite communications in 1971.

Publicly funded fibre can be provider agnostic. Starlink can’t. Unless Musk is arguing for the nationalization of Starlink, which frankly I could get behind.

After 30 years of marriage, my wife floated the idea of turning this on. I looked at her like she had two heads.
Why would anyone be willfully surveilled? You know its not just your partner that has access to that data when you have location services enabled.

Exactly. It’s not like google is the only indexer out there. And if this cuts into their search dominance, so much the better.

People talk about China’s energy use like it’s not* their* energy use. They used that power to produce the stupid shit that you bought, dumbass. You’re responsible for that energy use, despite it being generated in China.

You don’t fix this by lecturing young men. You fix it by giving them a sense of purpose and identity that doesn’t rely on putting someone else down.
Sounds like they need the shit slapped out of them.
Maybe they should just take the advice that we’ve been giving to women and minorities for the last 100 years and tell them that if they want to succeed they should just fucking work harder at it.

That’s exactly where all the value is. Selling people’s fucking genetic information. What makes it even more valuable is that it can be used against all subsequent descendants of the person that willingly gave it up. Do a DNA test like this and you’re selling out your entire family.

You should familiarize yourself with Telsat Canada’s LEO plans. Should be complete in less than 2 years.

I love that this guy is in an Ivy League school to meet his ‘co-founder’, when it’s hard to believe that someone that knows nothing and is intellectually incurious could ever found anything of value.

There used to be a market for small trucks which has all largely evaporated. I’m all in favour of a smaller utility truck with limited range. Something like this would be ideal for my business.

Fuck I still hate them for the minidisc

In that guys defence, it’s pretty common to just have your torrent client on in the background doing its thing. He was likely unaware either until seeing the notice.

I remember in the 80s several National Lampoon covers that featured this concept. One had a tagline with something like “Welcome to America, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company” or something like that. And then there is the slightly racist one in this image:

They’ve had something similar available for years. It’s a small plastic square about the size of a lego brick. You put it in your shoe and it makes you limp
