Co worker just got one of these. Looks pretty neat! I didnt find anyone on Lemmy talking about it yet. Thoughts ?

Guessing its owned by some shithead we shouldnt trust, as things like this usually go.

Edit: yep, war criminal Erik Prince owner. Well, do not support this!

tbf, i do have some trust in mullvad. and if i own the server, people might know its me because its my server. (as in, the only one using it and possibly some tethers to my name through accounts and payments)

Why not just use GrapheneOS? The only unique feature this phone has is the physical battery kill switch.

i was not advocating for this UP phone in any way and am sorry if it seemed that way. my next phone will indeed be running on GrapheneOS.

I was just trying to point out that using third party vpn infrastructure can make sense, even though i wouldn’t trust the vpn of UP in any way. trust is a difficult thing, but as of right now i’m liking mullvad.

100% with VPN services you’re shifting the trust, not removing the trust. And sorry, I just meant that as a general comment, I didn’t think you were implying that the UP phone’s implementation was inherently secure.
