It’s doubtful that the kid ‘fooled’ it. It’s far more likely that it’s programmed to let any kids that try to circumvent it, ‘fool’ it.
I don’t use any social media other than this, and maybe a few music/audio forums.
But. I honestly don’t get why more haven’t moved to Pixelfed or Nerimity, as they are far more privacy focused (not very hard comparing to anything Meta).
If it’s lack of communities/people, why not use the meta platform to advertise one of those two, the way everyone did the “je suis Charlie” thing that was all over the news a few years ago?
Meta are apparently unable to stop users doing something like that, allegedly.
Or so it seems when it’s not their problem.
They are genuine questions by the way… I don’t get it, but I’ve never been on any of them, not even MySpace or Bebo.

EU tries to encourage technology advances in EU and promote digital sovereignity. EU wants to impose restrictions on any advances without really understanding why, or what they are talking about.

That is an example of AskJeeves in all of its glory. Out of all the search engines, AskJeeves was in the best position to use AI and pretend to be somebody answering a question. But the reality is, it was a terrible search engine with results that were unrelated to the question most of the time.

That’s what the article linked is about. it was rejected, but Google, meta, snap etc… said that they’re going to scan anyway.

Despite the general and indiscriminate scanning of people’s messages not being legal in the EU
Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Snap have already signaled in a joint statement to “continue to take voluntary action on our relevant Interpersonal Communication Services.” Whether this indicates continued scanning of our private communication is not entirely clear, but what is clear is that such activity would now risk breaching EU law. Then again, lack of compliance with EU data protection and privacy rules is nothing new for big tech in Europe.
It is utterly insane that any company thinks that they can ignore laws from at least two different continents and not only think they will get away with it, but are getting away with it, and doing it so blatantly, impetuously and with impunity.

But climate change deniers would need to prove their expertise on weather and the climate etc. I was referring to the other post… I don’t think it would or could apply to politics.

Would it apply to politics? That’s just an opinion mostly. I don’t think that right or left could be considered 'experts ’ by any means, and both would be culpable for spreading misinformation. I guess one of the ways that they could get them would be when they say blatant untruths or have no evidence to back up stories that they promote.

Hey everyone, two of us have been working on a privacy-focused Discord alternative for some time and we’re opening it up for early testing to see how it performs and to get real feedback.
Kloak is privacy-first by design. There are no emails and no passwords. When you join, you’re given a secret key, and that key is your account. There is no recovery mechanism and no central identity tied to you. If the key is lost, the account is gone. This is intentional and meant to reduce stored user data and avoid creating identity honeypots.
Most of the core features are already in place. You can create servers, channels, roles, and permissions, upload files and custom emojis, etc.
We’re still early, and the main goal right now is to validate the model, catch UX issues, and stress the system a bit before going further. We’re especially interested in thoughts around the key-based account approach and any privacy or security trade-offs we may be overlooking.
If you’re curious or want to poke at it, it takes only a few seconds to join and doesn’t require any personal information. You can join Kloak at https://kloak.app/
Feel free to join our official server too through https://kloak.app/invite/PV3FEB8N

This is definitely not it, some corrupt politician will start it all again under a different guise after some unfettered lobbying by meta and the like. But great for the here and now to know that the public sway can at least once beat the heavy lobbying…

I knew it was Australia, didn’t realise that there was such a monopoly. Still possible, just makes it harder. Are there stores that aren’t part of any chain? They’re dying out here, usually the owners have signed up to a franchise.
It’s unlikely to happen anyway, but there should be a way that we can universally stop greed.

Boycott the stores that use them, it might help them change their mind behind they become the norm.

Pity it took Grok making child porn before they left it.

I think Zulip and Kahla do, not sure about which others, but a quick visit to each site should let you know whatever you need.

In no particular order, and not all are EU or FOSS But most are FOSS. I think only the first 6 are both EU and FOSS clients. I may not have marked all of the Self Hosted ones, but I think I did.

Yeah, but if accounts are made on mumble for example, the migration will happen there quicker. Then if that doesn’t suit many, others are an option. I’m guessing whichever platform benefits from this will happily make any changes that are currently missing.
Especially given the new “lifetime” price. More people will switch to Jellyfin. Plex lifetime might be shorter.
