If you use a Google service on a locked down Google device, what magic fix are you hoping for? There are limits. If you’re unwilling to make any meaningful change, then unfortunately you’re out of luck and either need to suck it up and watch the ads, or pay Google for an ad-free experience. Or you can leave their ecosystem and be free.

Its not like those are mutually exclusive. Long term vs short term fix.

Nope. I just upgraded my phone not too long ago, and apart from it being a (secondhand) Pixel, Google never entered the process.

What’s the point of a hardware switch if it only disables it via software? GrapheneOS has a software switch too.

If my phone had an accessible hardware switch I would absolutely be using it 100% of the time I wasn’t actively on my phone.

Running outdated software can open security vulnerabilities however.

Yeah, I’ve wondered the same thing about my settings. I’m certainly no expert so there may be something I’m doing wrong. It MOSTLY works though so I haven’t been hard pressed to dive into it.
