Unless I misread it, they are denying the security theater approach and insisting that if it’s rolled out, it must include the safeguards, not just saying they promise to have them ready in the next 18 months. Meanwhile other countries seem to be okay with implementing this before the safeguards are in place.

I’ll just patiently wait for the next wave of 0days exploiting it.

My town had a guy that loved baseball a long time ago, he had money and wanted it local so he built a baseball field right on the river, made a big park and donated it to the city. He was pretty smart about it and worked the deed so that it would take a two-third vote of the citizens to sell it.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago and the mayor petitioned the governor to change the deed under an NDA as he wanted to lease the park to a minor league baseball team. In the deal he also gave them the naming rights for the park, so the baseball team renamed the park after a local bank that gave them money.

As someone that has entered so many Steam keys over the years (over 1,000) yet only bought maybe 20 games from Steam I almost feel bad, but the dev was following the rules and Steam is okay with it (as long as they aren’t selling those keys for less than they can be purchased on Steam for).

Yep. Sell your game for whatever you want wherever you want. If you want to distribute your game via Steam (Steam keys), you can’t sell them cheaper than they are sold on Steam because you aren’t handling the distribution (which costs money).

Otherwise a competing company (like Ubisoft) could just make a 20TB game, list it on steam for a crazy price, then sell Steam keys for it on another storefront cheap; Steam will have to cover the distribution costs without making anything in return.

This is the best option when dealing with companies like MS. Some companies actually use reports, issue CVEs, acknowledge shit… MS does not, fuck them. Sell the 0day to a company that will go on to sell it to a state actor, MS will patch it eventually but you won’t be treated like shit to keep it under the rug.

Not necessarily goats, but something entirely separate from IT; for now I’m stuck trying to earn a bit of a retirement, but my eye is on the door.

There is still some good IT stuff to be done though. I have a homelab that I use to avoid Google where I can (degoog/nextcloud/immich/etc), and keep my data indoors as much as possible…

As pissed as I get at fees, electric cars don’t typically pay a gas tax, the taxes we levy on fuel pay for road maintenance so that fee should be for road repairs. In my very small car I pay around $1.80 or so each week in federal fuel tax (not sure what I pay to the state, but those combined is very likely over $130/yr).

Nice! I’m giving it a go with some dumb free m3u’s now and so far it’s been pretty great. I haven’t tied it into Jellyfin or Plex yet but one I decide on a decent iptv provider it’ll be happening.

Not in my experience, but I keep my Plex up for my brother. I shifted away personally a year or so ago because I couldn’t watch at work anymore (despite self hosting, login still requires a connection to Plex… Which is blocked at work). With Jellyfin, I can just auth against my Authentik server.

I felt the same way with my Kodi installs, I had a pi in every room that used a shared library db so I could pause in one room and resume somewhere else, nfs shares for media, a config file and done.

I bought a lifetime Plex pass a decade or so ago and shifted everything except my music to Jellyfin about a year ago. Now I’m looking into dispatcharr to round everything out.
