Hopefully Trump will use it in the same way Hitler did…

I don’t think they give a shit about bots, as it inflates their traffic numbers and gives the illusion of a more robust user base. This is about gathering your data. They want to know who you are for marketing and other purposes.

I can’t see this move by Google as anything but a power grab to reduce competition. If someone wants to bear the “risk” of installing software that hasn’t been vetted by Google, why does Google insist on being a nanny that makes it more difficult? Money, that’s why. Google is acting to try to enforce its monopoly over android apps. GrapheneOS, which is more secure than android, doesn’t make a fuss over this issue. No, this is only an issue with the company that hoovers up all your data in breach of your privacy.

Raised from 35 to 42, which is a big jump. At 35, the physical downward spiral is just beginning. At 42, it is typically well underway, especially in the U.S., where obesity runs rampant. They must be anticipating a slog similar to that when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Yes, wind it down. Do you think Iran will say bygones and suddenly unblock the Strait of Hormez, give up their nuclear program, and rein in their proxies, or continue to do everything in their power to hit the U.S. back? SO fucking dumb.

This is interesting, as there are strategies for regenerating the thymus.

RealID is insufficient to confirm citizenship, yet a facial recognition app that is known to make errors is “definitive”? Sounds like racist bullshit to me.

What? The “land of the free”? Whoever told you that is your enemy

The engagement bots constantly peppering my comments with inane remarks to draw a reaction is what drove me to Lemmy. I was there early on, and it was awesome. As its popularity grew, it became less nice, but I still enjoyed going there. In the end, I didn’t feel like commenting because I knew that I’d just get hit with stupid responses calculated to draw a response. It just felt harassing.

Android apps are sandboxed
FWIW, they’re not sandboxed from google play services:
The Play Store Services process has access to your precise location at all times, the motion sensors, networks, hardware identifiers (including IMEI), contacts, passwords, the entire storage space, call logs, access to other apps’ data, and more.
Accordingly, google would have access to the Signal data on your phone. However, I don’t know whether the encryption would provide a measure of protection against google. GrapheneOS by default does not use google play services, and provides a sandboxed version for people who need the functionality.

Concentration in fewer and fewer stocks is what happens towards the end of a bull market, and we’re currently in a bull market that has been running wild for years. My personal opinion is that we’re going to get parabolic price increases with a blow-off top, with the following collapse coinciding with the collapse of the U.S. dollar and destruction of the U.S. as the dominant economic force in the world. The stage has been set with a shrinking economy resulting from a massive ill-conceived trade war and indiscriminate deportation of our low-cost labor force, along with gross fiscal irresponsibility from unnecessary tax cuts and excessive spending giving rise to unsustainable budget deficits. The final nail in the coffin will be the debasement of the dollar by a corrupted Federal Reserve that has lost its independence from the Executive branch. There is a reason that gold, a hard asset viewed as a safety net, is in it’s biggest bull run in history, and that bull has a lot further to run. Things will likely come to a head in the 4th quarter of 2026, or not too long thereafter, and we will then slide into that I’m calling “The Greatest Depression”. May you live in interesting times!

It’s not just fast casual, but literally all food eating out is getting ridiculously expensive. Add in the fact that you can make much healthier meals at home for a fraction of the cost, and it just doesn’t make any sense to eat out any more.

Apple and Google should just prevent their app stores from functioning in Texas.
Ha ha, that’s a good one! Fascism’s enablers standing up to fascism.

It’s ridiculous. The fact that a significant part of the report was clearly fraudulent calls into question the merit of the entire report. How could anyone take it seriously after finding dozens of fraudulent sources? They should sue to recover 100% of what was paid.

I imagine using the TOR browser would work as well.

Is this why Kanye likes fish sticks?
I’ve been running GrapheneOS for several years now and I love it, and currently run it on a Pixel 9 Pro XL. Super easy to install and use. With respect to the things you can’t compromise on, you should be fine if you run the sandboxed Google Play services. I will say that my banking app updated a while back and now will not work with GrapheneOS, saying something about a lack of security, which I assume is because they probably added checks for stock android, so YMMV. If you buy a used Pixel, make sure you get one with an unlockable bootloader. Carrier phones have locked bootloaders, along with carrier locking, and when they unlock them they just unlock the carrier aspect so that you can use them on other carriers, and the bootloaders remain locked so you can’t wipe the OS and install another, so you have to make sure you get one with an unlockable bootloader. Some ebay sellers advertise this, making it easy to find what you need. If you ever want to revert to stock android, it is an easy change. Google’s “unverified app” decision does not affect GrapheneOS’ ability to sideload apps, as it is a completely different OS.
