I remember back when I first started seeing a DR plan with three tiers of restore, 1 hour, 12 hours or 72 hours. I knew that to 1 hour meant a simple redirect to a DB partition that was a real time copy of the active DB, and twelve hours meant that failed, so the twelve hours was a restore point exercise that would mean some data loss, but less than one hour, or something like that.

I had never heard of 72 hours and so raised a question in the meeting. 72 hours meant having physical tapes shipped to the data center, and I believe meant up to 12 (though it could have been 24) hours of data lost. I was impressed by this, because the idea of having a job that ran either daily or twice daily that created tape backups was completely new to me.

This was in the early aughts. Not sure if tapes are still used…

People who have experienced armed conflict are pretty clear that every other avenue should be explored. I can only imagine what would happen if people started taking pot shots at government law enforcement.

I can only imagine, but I am fairly certain that others don’t have to rely on imagination because I am very sure there are plans in place to respond with force if anyone were to do that.

I would also guess there are people in positions of power who are just waiting for a reason to escalate things even further.

Peaceful means of resistance should always be exhausted before anything else is considered.

I remember about a decade ago talking about tofu recipes with a colleague who lifted and ate a protein heavy diet.

An older colleague heard us and warned us that eating tofu would cause you to have a surplus of estrogen and make you more feminine.

He was telling this to a guy built like a brick shithouse who had eaten tons of soy protein for the better part of a decade.

It’s that same old thing, something different comes along and some people just have to parrot anything that goes against that thing, even if it’s complete and utter horseshit

It does have some very unique features, like if you submit a print job that is larger than fifteen pages it goes on strike
