“Hey ChatGPT”
(It was a joke please don’t crucify me)
I can be controversial or annoying because I always require proof and facts for whatever people are saying/claiming. This has gotten me into a lot of heated debates, even got myself banned from “YouShouldKnow” for saying I need more proof of Israeli’s genocide (that was long ago, got more proof and changed my mind). If I do not agree on some subjectively obvious topic, please do not assume I’m being unfriendly, evil or a troll. I do try my best to approach any subject with neutral and open mind. Just call me autistic with OCD

Or just realize that nobody fucking likes LLMs as much as the Captains of Industry want us to believe
Funny, but it’s actually a bit worse. People are literally falling in love with it and generally go nuts. This is not even getting into the whole “it’s conscious”. You’re essentially living in a bubble and don’t really know how bad it is. Don’t look up how many use character.ai
EDIT: On a related note, it’s slightly annoying that Lemmy converts links like.it, without me providing https://

You put editing and watching YouTube under the same umbrella
Video encoding and decoding is generally under the same category - video processing.
What editing software do you use?
Like, right now, or have used (pretty long list)? My favourite is still After Effects just because of how used to it I am, but I seriously do not feel like listing all the plugins and extra apps (probably any professional knows about mocha/syntheyes or nuke). That’s my main, I’ve even learned to mostly skip premiere (still gotta use media encoder for obvious reasons). For 3d stuff and effects - Cinema 4D (FumeFX, xparticles, realflow, etc). Good enough, detective?

Yeah, I played large modpacks at good fps decade ago.
It’s not about whether you can use AI (obviously they can, commonly even larger models than similar laptops due to unified memory), it’s about how fast it is.

Many plugins and apps I use don’t really work with GPU/Hardware acceleration when it comes to rendering, same applies to encoding in different codecs. I’d know, because I’ve been unfortunately doing this shit for nearly 20 years and building my workstations (definitely not ARM, screw your downvotes and love for it) around it.
Pretty much every serious studio out there uses either EPYC or Xeon and to me it seems ridiculous that apparently majority here doesn’t see the problem with my initial argument of apple marketing these chips as God-tier and beat-them-all, when clearly, as it has been proven before, apple heavily misleads with their marketing and it’s not as simple as it seems.
EDIT: And people who feel like arguing by bullshitting accusations (like the guy above about me not knowing anything) are basically how redditors argued.

Did you even read what you sent me? Do point out to me the part about cybersecurity, I’m waiting.
EDIT: Actually, it’s a great article.

It’s called decoding and encoding…

Just like “optimization for games don’t matter anymore because everyone has 32gb of ram”, right? Because ARM is just simple RISC, right? https://simplifycpp.org/?id=a0882
What you consider unimportant is actually super important in cyber security by the way.

But can it finally run Minecraft better than a 10 year old cheap Intel?
EDIT: For the downvoters - this was a joke (But can it run crysis?), but since this got attention - my pet peeves with Apple is that they advertised M chips as universally powerful and good, a serious competitor to Intel. It’s a mobile chip with instructions mostly for media encoding and decoding. It’s like comparing Prius to a bulldozer. If your workstation involves watching YouTube and using final cut pro, then sure, but anything remotely more advanced mostly falls apart on it. Don’t even get me started on AI and how slow the unified memory is

The idea features heavily in the widely read AI 2027 doomsday scenario of last year, which imagines AI agents designing more and more intelligent versions of themselves, one of which eventually kills all of humanity with a bioweapon in order to make room for more datacentres and solar panels.
Fucking lunatics

DLSS 5 will be optimized to run on a single GPU for release.
DLSS5 would fail if they required two cards, and nVidia knows this.

Not really. You’re thinking of Nvidia test bench, and they always go overboard. 5070 was already confirmed to support DLSS5.

DLSS has always been local. I’ve never heard about anything cloud-related when it comes to DLSS. The DLSS5 demo was also local.

I actually think DLSS5 isn’t that terrible and part of the reason it was so hated was because of “AI”. I see it similar to graphic mods or Ray reconstruction (DLSS 4.5), just another tech. Don’t like it? Don’t use it. Me, on the other hand, want to actually see this happen in real-time, one day. I imagine we could even see proper filters in the future (like this).

No, they sued as an answer against Valve’s threats and actions, nothing really to do with customers, but Valve using it’s power to dictate how they can sell their product in a way that does not create competition against Valve.
It’s literally called anti-trust lawsuit.
EDIT: Honestly dude, I think we should just agree to disagree and finally end this convo. You’re obviously not convincing me and I’m not convincing you, so it’s a dead end of back and forth.

It’s literally what lawsuit is about, but okay.

…
How can I not blame Valve when they’re the reason others can’t compete in pricing? Why are you not getting this?

This is not what I’m talking about. I agree with you, and anyone can choose whichever platform they want.
The discussion is about how Valve Corporation uses it’s status for anti-trust practices which is a major blockade for other companies to compete with steam.
Like I said, as long as this keeps happening, others can hardly compete and gamers don’t have a reason to use other platforms.

Ubisoft wants so sell cheaper on Uplay to pull traffic there. Why not just simply dump Steam and ONLY sell on their platform? I’d really like you to answer this question.
Steam has major market share and it’s not a good business decision to ignore that, so publishers are forced to submit to Valve’s rules, unless they’re ready to take the loss.
In a fair world, all these publishers would likely sell cheaper on their own platforms, which is good for you, the customer, but that won’t happen with Valve setting rules, and so there is no reason for customers to make a switch, and so other platforms can’t compete.
Epic gained some traction by giving away free games, but that’s basically the best they can do.
Ask yourself - how can any other company be competitive in the current environment? How would you even go about building your own platform when the very basic thing (pricing) is basically regulated by the big guys?
I’m not sure where else to post this, but today Lemmy feels very off. I’m not seeing comments on any of the non-infosec communities (Ie. Lemmy world memes, etc.)/posts and upvotes hang around 1-3. It’s like the activity overnight dropped by 95%, or something is broken today. The only few comments I saw around were from users of this instance.
EDIT: Fixed, thanks Jerry!
