This whole situation has made me realize that I need to get back on the OpenWRT train.

That would have been a better outcome, but unfortunately that is not what happened. The kid wasn’t on some altruistic journey, he hacked a company whose business is dealing with tens of millions of children’s data. Prison was not the only remedy available, and I don’t relish in the thought of sending a young person there. Could’ve been some deferred action in conjunction with a program that steered the teen back onto a track of help rather than theft.

I didn’t say that being sent to prison was the desired outcome. But at the very least, there needs to be some amount of accountability involved.

Yeah, we all have to have a red line. Going after children’s data is a net negative. Hackers have all of these terrible companies to extort. No need to bring children into this.

My lord the amount of “I have a REAL job” in here is too damn high. I work 8 hours a night, 40+ hours a week, in an automotive plant. My job can be very stressful, and physically demanding. So what?

I don’t sit here and whine about people that stare at their screens (IT, developers, etc) all day. Are they really doing any work? After all, they are not performing physical labor.

How is it that different for people who create content? I’d argue that they do more work, as they have to set up, film, edit and market their work.

I don’t see how that is naive at all. We prop Israel up. If the president calls Bibi and threatens to stop all aid, unless they imposed a ceasefire, it would happen. They have so much power, tech and weaponry because we give it to them. If we pointed the barrel of the most powerful military on earth at them, they would cease immediately.

It would take one phone call from the President, and the genocide would stop. Biden could have done it, and Trump still can. I don’t see the US governments unwavering support of Israel ever ending.
