I’ve been thinking of creating a new account through Tor, so that I could reconnect with my former communities who are still active there since, unfortunately, Reddit is still bigger than Lemmy. But with this new stupid identity verification rule from Reddit, I don’t think I will come back to the site.
I guess I will recreate the communities I’ve been missing here in Lemmy instead, which I have been thinking of doing for a long while now.

Doing those is not unreasonable, but not even having a bank account is way too far. I know of someone, who was later diagnosed with autism and doesn’t have a job due to condition, initially didn’t want a bank account for fear of online snooping.
Minimising digital footprint is perfectly fine, but trying to be off the grid and yet wants to participate in society and still engage in consumption is unreasonable. And this thinking isn’t just on one person, I saw many users in Reddit privacy stressing themselves out in trying to completely wipe off their digital footprints. Unless you participate in political activities, or really just wants to live completely isolated in a forest, being off the grid is totally unreasonable.

I think given how a substantial number of users in Lemmy are old, I think there is simply a natural aversion to the new and grasping for straws. I never hear of younger folks with IT background dismiss AI completely, as much as Lemmy does. I’m not a fan of AI, especially how company shove AI to us, but to dismiss that it won’t evolve and improve is a ridiculous position to me.
Can you explain how quorom sensing is reasoning and exercising logic?

Honestly, I don’t understand Lemmy scoffing at AI and thinking the current iteration is all it ever will be. I’m sure some thought that the automobile technology would not go anywhere simply because the first model was running at 3mph. These things always takes time.
To be clear, I’m not endorsing AI, but I think there is a huge potential in years to come, for better or worse. And it is especially important to never underestimate something, especially by AI haters, because of what destructive potential AI has.
I’m sure AI will do those things at some point. Nobody expected the same of our microorganism ancestors.
We poked fun at this meme, but it goes to show that the LLM is still like a child that needs to be taught to make implicit assumptions and posses contextual knowledge. The current model of LLM needs a lot more input and instructions to do what you want it to do specifically, like a child.
Edit: I know Lemmy scoff at LLM, but people probably also used to scoff at Veirbest’s steam machine that it will never amount to anything. Give it time and it will improve. I’m not endorsing AI by the way, I am on the fence about the long term consequence of it, but whether people like it or not, AI will impact human lives.
Yeah, I have a backlog of games and thus usually they’re old games to complete (only just couple of years old, not 30 years old), or at least only require lower spec, so I am not in a rush to upgrade my laptop.
In the rest of the developed world, “Democrats” are conservatives. It’s high time that Americans fully make distinction and articulate their views instead of being pigeonholed by corporate/fascist media’s newspeak. I think the only positive aspect of Trump’s presidency is that a lot of Americans are becoming woke in a real sense that the “left”, which is coopted and mudied by corporate newspeak, is gaining its real meaning. Americans are starting to see that the two parties two cheeks from the same ass, as we would say in Ireland.

It takes decades for innovative products, or seemingly useless ideas, to be commercially viable. That’s why the best response, when asked what is the purpose of doing research on seemingly useless topics, is to say “I don’t know, but I know it’s going to be taxed someday.”
