  • If you want to make any difference on that issue at all, the first step would be to clarify who youre talking about

Most people hate “the rich” as in rich people, as in people that can afford a limo and a five star hotel and some lavish lifestyle. They say tax the rich as in people significantly wealthier than them. But even that 5% or 1% or even 0.1% really are not the ones with the money. They just side with the people who have the serious money because they feel targeted by the general rhetoric of “tax the rich”

The reality is that the dysfunction in society and poverty stems from not taxing the 0.0000001%, the like 10-20 people in the entire world who control a majority of the money that exists. Musk, Bezos, people of that level of wealth. For most of the people in the world, anyone making over $50k a year is just as vast of a difference as the one that exists between someone making $50k and someone worth $5M. Which realistically is far less vast than the difference between someone worth $5M versus $500B. Making anything over $50k a year puts someone in the top 10% of wealth holders in the entire world. In America that is hardly a living wage, but globally speaking it is certainly being among the rich.

For any progress to occur its absolutely necessary that moderately wealthy people (who still have a lot of power in society and monetarily) to side with the bottom 99% to tax the 0.0000001% of people whos money never moves. The people who couldnt spend it all if they tried, in a world where money is useless to the majority if it doesnt change hands.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

  • Considering that most of the people supporting ICE view everything through the most basic “us vs them” tribalism lens, Im curious to see how this shakes out.

Assuming a lot of pro-ICE people probably originally imagined the shooters as typical white good ol boy agents making a career of terrorizing brown people, what happens now? How does the white christofascist hierarchy assign placement to a hispanic ICE agent, which in their mind is surely virtually an oxymoron?

With Good’s killing, obviously they still support the ICE agent who killed a liberal, because liberal is obviously an outgroup of lesser people to them

With Pretti, a fairly traditional white good ol boy figure who cares for veterans and carries a firearm but also is protesting against ICE operations is killed by two brown ICE agents. The veneer of him being some kind of liberal domestic terrorist quickly falls apart, and now they have to rectify supporting ICE ops with the fact that now someone closer to their imagined in-group was killed by two officers they would otherise. They have to swallow the fact that they too could be shot dead if they were carrying in the street while protesting government actions. And these are people that hardly ever stop thinking of potentially rallying against the government if it doesnt do exactly what they want

I imagine in confronting that, some people on the right will start to be against ICE ops, and somehow the rest will perform mental gymnastics so impressive that they could earn olympic gold

  • The difference can be pretty staggering between games even released a short time apart. I recently got back into AC games, and while downloading them I noticed Origins is less than 25 Gb, while Odyssey is over 75 Gb. They were only released one year apart.

I havent started Odyssey, so I cant make a comparison, but Origins is a beautiful and well running game at less than 25 Gb of data. I cant imagine Odyssey is significantly more impressive to a point where demanding 3x the data is justified, considering it runs on the same hardware. But I guess I will see soon enough

  • it doesnt mean that democratic socialists like Mamdani dont contribute anything to left-wing movements

Yeah, thats because they are definitively left wing movements in and of themselves. Someone doesnt have to be an ML communist to be left wing, and the small tent idea that the only true leftward movement is to be ML is plain stupid. Anything that is not a conservative political movement is a left/progressive movement. ML’s nor anybody else are the arbiters of what is or is not a progressive movement. The defining feature of what is progressive is being in favor of change, which can look like many different things. It’s about being proactionary vs reactionary.

That said, conservative political movements often change things drastically. Just look at the federal government right now. The difference is that those political movements’ arguments are rooted in conservatism, either to keep things the same or return to some imaginary point in the past. Donald Trump can do all kinds of crazy shit to fuck up the country, but he is still politically arguing in a conservative fashion, I.E. MAGA.

That is the defining feature of what is or is not a left wing movement. Failure to understand that, and failure to not see everyone who isnt ML as some kind of enemy is why nobody wants to work with MLs. Even if MLs claim they are open to working with anyone whos goals lean in a left direction, like in this video, they cant go two sentences further without making it clear that they arent interested in compromise or further learning. “Communist or bust, and if you dont agree then youre not a real progressive” is shit-tier political messaging to 99% of people. While it may not be literally said, everyone but MLs seem to realize that is exactly who MLs are. Its baked in to just about everything the way MLs communicate

The vast majority of people in this country dont want radical ML societal change, and it is unlikely to ever be palatable to even most progressive voters. The majority of progressives want the US to be like Sweden or Norway, not some idealization of communism that has never found fruition in the history of the world thus far. The closest anyone has gotten is China, only by virtue of not being pure ML and instead being market Leninists or whatever you want to call it. They certainly arent tossing capitalism out the window. And even with that, their economy is crashing out as we speak.

Its fair to say that none have found real success because the global system is a ruthless capitalist system more than its the fault of the merits of ML. But, I think most people intuitively understand that any ML society is doomed to fail in the wider global system, and the wider global system isnt going to change because there is no effective means of changing it, nor is every country ever going to be on board with changing it at once (as would be necessary to contribute to the success of any individual ML countries)
