Haven’t tested it against meta glasses. Essentially it requires the MAC address of the device and pings the shit out of it. May or may not work against the glasses.

Requires Linux. But a raspberry pi should do the trick.

I was fortunate. I was offered a research position from an EU country so it comes with a work visa.

I am one of the US scientists who is moving to the EU due to the US’s anti science policies. I, of course, cannot speak for all US scientists, but China is an unlikely draw for most of the scientists I know. While the US is descending into fascism, China is already there. I’m not sure how many people I know are eager to live in that type of system in exchange for funding. I know a few who are heading to the EU and Canada. Those who are in dire straights due to funding issues are switching to industry positions or changing fields altogether. People from China or Hong Kong who are in research positions in the US, I would expect are more likely to go to China though.

I agree it won’t happen. But it is a simple solution.

The majority of problems in the US could be fixed with one simple solution: eliminate lobbying completely. I know some small causes would suffer, but it would overwhelmingly be a good thing. The vast majority of people in congress right now are there because money is involved. They are not there to help or represent their district or state or country. They are there to get rich and it works. If there was no money in politics, more of the people trying to get elected would actually represent the people. It wouldn’t solve everything, but it would be a heck of a start.

Yea, as the other person mentioned, to my knowledge (which is limited) the video decoding in the browser on Linux tends to be browser and hardware specific. I know it’s gotten easier over the past couple years tho.

It will choose for you, but you can select specific drivers if you’d like. I’ve only had to mess with installing specific drivers on edge cases.

PopOS in my opinion. It (mostly) solves the issue of getting the drivers needed to run GPUs.

Well the head of the EPA called climate change “a religion” so that ship has sailed for the US.

“…instead they will do it by making some tech execs part-time lieutenant colonels in the Army Reserve while retaining their current full-time jobs. Welcome your newest recruits: Andrew Bosworth, CTO of Meta; Shyam Sankar, CTO Palantir; Kevin Weil, CPO of OpenAI; and Bob McGrew, OpenAI’s former research chief and current advisor to Thinking Machines Lab.”
I certainly wouldn’t want these four with me in a foxhole.

Cape looks dope. Anyone have experience with their service?

The article claims that 1 trillion dollars was lost to scams in 2024 “based on research from GASA.org”. I cannot for the life of me figure out where this number comes from. Going to that website they say it’s based on ~58,000 surveys. I think they took the survey results, took the average amount of money the surveys claimed people lost and multiplied it by the total population of Earth or some nonsense shit. Their reports are blocked behind registration, which I’m not willing to do to find out their report is bullshit. Misinformation at its finest right here.

While this is good news, the fight for privacy in the digital age will never end. They will continue to take small bites until they have the entire pie. Unfortunately we never (or rarely) regain any digital right to privacy that has been taken in the past. The best we can do is halt the further erosion of our digital privacy through vigilance, education and protest.
“Recently, there were many issues with the X app for GrapheneOS users, and they allege that the new rules are the cause.”
I understand the greater issue at hand here, but why are people using GrapheneOS as a phone OS, but are STILL using X? And why is GrapheneOS using X?
