Oh good, more earth to pillage.

Oh good, more earth to pillage.

Ooh, I actually know this one!
HIPAA applies to personally identifiable information that links the patient to the medical data. It can be shared if the patient has been obfuscated enough to not be personally identifiable, but the interpretation of that can be pretty broad.
For instance, I can say something like in the Generic County area, there is a predominance of [Disease] among the [Race] community. This was found to be 10% higher in non-citizens of that race. Of patients surveyed, 40% were noncitizens. It was also noted that the Generic Neighborhood displayed a 15% higher rate than the average for this disease.
No single person is identified, but I can narrow down a target audience to a specific neighborhood and ethnicity if I’m an advertiser. This same information can then be used maliciously to infer that the Generic Neighborhood likely has a population of illegal immigrants living there.
When combined with the other data they collect on people, they can likely narrow it down to individual people and homes.
What HIPPA says I can’t say is “Juan Lopez is an illegal Mexican immigrant with gastroparesis.” It was a law designed before the current AI data bullshit, and it needs to be updated to be a lot stronger to provide the protection it is supposed to provide.

Idk, swelling the weight of a bag is a dick move and I think it should be punished harshly. /s

You won’t be out when your rent is a million per month and groceries are 100k.

Yes, it’s worth it. Reading books on a mini is exponentially better than an iPhone. Using it as a portable screen while I’m working is exponentially better than an iPhone. It is honestly one of my favorite devices, and I don’t even use the pencil.

I fucking love my iPad Mini. Don’t you dare take it from me!

He could.

It’s similar to fear factor—you can authorize quite a lot of things in a contract.
The medical examiner has said that they don’t think his death was caused directly by the treatment during the stream.

Fair enough. Like I said, I’m not a Nietzsche expert, I just had never interpreted his writings in a primarily political context, and I had read a decent amount of commentary from people who did claim to be experts that refuted the idea of him having fascist or anti-Semitic leanings.

How is this different than the criticism that leftists on Lemmy espouse against modern liberalism?

I have read several of his works, and they never struck me as inherently political—more like a commentary on observable sociological structures. I may just not be clever enough to absorb everything, but I had originally interpreted his work as observational rather than prescriptive.

I am no Nietzsche expert, but I had always heard that a relative in charge of his estate, who was a fascist, took advantage of him in his old age after his brain had been diminished by syphilis. He wasn’t a liberal or leftist by modern standards, but he also didn’t seem to be a fascist or anti-Semite.
Here is an article that seems to support this view:

The better question is why would they?

Amen. It’s like they think that somehow it is better to only encounter the world when you are in college and alone.

Character, space, space, space, space, space, space, space, character, space, space, space, space, space, space, space, space, space, character, ENTER.
Just like your grandpappy used to do.

Of all the red lines we’ve crossed so far, this one almost feels like small beans. The standard has gotten very out of whack in a very short time.

What’s wrong with hookers and coke?

That’s true. I just appreciate that he seems to do a bit more than Musk to at least keep the appearance of giving back. This still doesn’t get him off the guillotine list.

That’s true, but to be fair, if he pulls it off it will be one hell of an example to set.
I think she is poorly wording an idea that I’ve been talking about for a minute: the death of the cottage industry.
The avenues for a temporary gig are diminishing. You can’t drive uber or make store deliveries if a robot does it cheaper, you can’t sell weed if it’s legal everywhere, and you can’t even stand outside Home Depot and get picked up as a builder if the powers that be are arresting people and enforcing trespassing laws. We don’t live in the 1930’s anymore—you can’t make ends meet by pickling your backyard vegetables. Unless you’re a hot chick who is willing to sell her nudes on OF, then there aren’t really many options for the unemployed to survive.
The human connection is great and all, but the bigger thing she learned was that those drivers needed that opportunity to drive so they could meet their expenses. It still isn’t enough, but something is still better than nothing.
