Waiting for a C&D from Discord. I’m avoiding on that premise alone.
Good points. I have been trying to spin up my own instance because the alternatives are still not up to snuff but Matrix seemed a decent alternative if self hosted.
I just saw another article today about XMPP which was going to be my last ditch effort, but that will be my next foray it seems!
Isn’t Matrix open source? And wouldn’t hosting your own instance unfederated resolve that concern?

I saw the Chris Hemsworth one on YouTube the day after the bowl. It really made no sense to me as a “buy Alexa” ad because all of the outcomes are very possible at some point with misguided or badly deployed code.

Thanks. Turns out I only spun up the web client. Explains why I wasn’t really “connecting” to my own server in my testing!
Going to give this and Stoat a try, but I did like the little I saw of Matrix in the public server.

How can you do this? I just spun up an Element container but am still learning about Matrix as a whole.

I only grab movies in 4k anymore, and that’s even reserved for those worthy of it (LotR or OG Marvel for example). I used to grab series in 4k but the size consumption is not worth it. The same goes for movies but you need to consider that one season of a series is equal to four to eight 4k movies in size depending on the episodes in the series. I used to grab 720p series for those not typically watched, but since H265 was introduced I find many releases where 1080p is similar and sometimes smaller in size to a 720p release.

I’ve installed a more recent version of Win11 without network and local account was still working. I also recently found that the IoT Enterprise version cuts out Copilot AND the Windows store in the base install. So IoT + Massgrave ftw.

I’ve already found recent emails in my gmail account for right-leaning news sources I’ve had to opt out of. I’ve been lax on my gmail management until last year I went on a major cleanup spree, so I know these new emails were automatically added somehow, and this article likely explains it.

I recently set up quite a few friends and family with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise licenses thanks to MassG. Told them if they don’t get updates past next Tuesday to let me know.

You can’t DPI a VPN tunnel because it will break the tunnel connection.

I’ve been having the same thoughts recently. Your mention of carrier pigeon and smoke signals now has me thinking that embedding data inside a birds sing like the recent jpeg someone tested could be our future soon.

I’m sure they did, and they wouldn’t take the farm down until there was X% failure, but the amount of time and effort it took to perform those repairs made it unfeasible.

It worked well until there was a component failure, requiring a whole farm to be taken down to replace said failed components. This is why they dropped the project.

You need to set up a DKIM record to validate your domain. If you are using proton free without your own domain, there’s nothing you can do.

I would argue that gambling sites and gacha games are much worse.

I’ve had two QNAP NAS fail on me, never again. The first failed shortly after the 3-year warranty expired and was MSRP $600. The second failed right before warranty expiration with MSRP $1200 thinking a better unit would be less prone to fail, but alas.
Thankfully I was able to RMA to get my data back (proprietary RAID), and while waiting on RMA to return, built a custom TrueNAS server I can service all parts on myself for around the same cost of a new NAS. Sold the RMA unit on eBay to recoup some cost as well. All I ever ran on those units was Plex and Samba\NFS file shares. Never again.
They make profit off of that UI style and that’s all that really matters. Only a matter of time as I said.
