Oh, no doubt. Reel to reel is the ultimate analog media.

Incorrect. I have three NAD 6300s and a Nakamichi Dragon, and with metal tapes it’s transparent to digital. Shit even good type II nearly transparent. Tapes do not sound “dogshit”. Unlike vinyl, you can easily experiment with the many varieties of tape out there and master your own cassette recordings. It’s like rolling tubes in an analog amplifier. Yes, it’s not perfectly transparent to digital on a cheap type I tape, but the warmth of a high end type I rounds off some of the harshness of modern tracks. YMMV, it’s not for everyone, but I think it’s pretty fucking cool.

Cassettes are making a comeback much like vinyl but to a lesser extent. I’ve got 600 or so cassettes and probably 3/4 of them were made in the past 8 years.

I mean, it doesn’t really follow given the context. Nobody is talking about the visual sense, they’re talking about humanizing AI through using certain words, which isn’t paredolia.

Paredolia just means seeing patterns that aren’t there, it’s not implicitly human. If you see a dog in the clouds, that’s paredolia.

Nobody. Impermanence is a blessing, not a curse.
Perhaps it’s a bit pedantic, but I’d consider that a road sensor not a weather sensor. Road condition and a webcam is related to weather but not one of the primary instruments like a barometer, anemometer, thermometer, rain gauge, etc.
I see what you’re saying though, it could be one of those road sensors.

Doesn’t look like any weather sensor is there to me.

I recently re-entered the dating pool for the first time in a decade and it’s incredible how much attention I get from just appearing clean, having my shit together, and not posting a picture with me holding a fish. Never got so much attention from women before in my life. Had a date in like one week.
The bar is very, very low. I am sorry, ladies out there.

Locking your phone and Lockdown Mode are drastically different things.

Other comment is wrong. LD50 = 50% chance of dying. LD99 = 99% chance of dying. The figures I listed are for humans, not mice. LD50 in mice is likely drastically different than LD50 in humans.

Your entire comment is incorrect. LD50 is lethal dose to kill on average 50% of the time. LD99 is the dose that kills 99% of people. The figures I listed are for humans. There’s no way to extrapolate LD50 from other species to humans. There is enough data on humans radiation exposure to directly calculate LD50.

This costs “less than $70”.
You can get a cheap Geiger counter for $50 today and it’s about the same size. I see some for $30-40. These are based on old, proven technology, not some new thing with new unknown problems and an app.
Not that it isn’t neat, but it’s kind of a solved problem.
To put this into perspective, a 10 Gray dose to the skin is high enough to cause permanent hair loss.
A 10Gy exposure is well, well beyond hair loss range and into the fatal within days zone. The LD50 is 5Gy, LD99 is 9Gy IIRC. Methinks the author did not do their research on the topic.

It happens if you express any positive sentiment towards Apple. I don’t give a shit, downvotes matter not.
I don’t need my phone to be a completely open computer, I have a computer and a server for that. I need a communications appliance, and since I’m the family IT guy, I need the lowest bullshit device my boomer parents can operate. My parents are not going to run some high privacy custom ROM because I’m not going to troubleshoot their problems. I realize that those ROMs are objectively better if you’re only considering the phone, but I basically have to manage a fleet of devices, and it’s easier troubleshooting if I’m also using the same. I don’t love Apple, it’s just easier.

You say it’s purposely stunted, I say it has guardrails that saves me hours and hours of family IT support time un-fucking my elderly parents phones. This was something I’d have to do every single time I was home when we had android phones.
I would dump Apple in a heartbeat if something better existed. They’re not good but they’re the best for my personal scenario of the current options.

This is not Windows, your BIOS controls the power button functionality.

RAM is insane but storage is cheap. You can get recertified drives for a NAS for like $16/TB.
Nah, this is wrong. Cassettes don’t sound like dogshit and most vintage decks sound great when properly calibrated.
Modern $20 Chinese portables sound like ass, I’ll give you that.
