We are giant meat gundams our DNA has built up to pass on our genes. The moment we can do that, all the stem cell and regenerative pathways start turning off because we’ve achieved our purpose.
There’s a lot of people here unable to recognize how important attention span is for deep, meaningful learning.
Way too many people saying “ATTENTION SPANS NOT INTELLIGENCE DUHMASSES” and failing short because they don’t have the attention span to think of implications of decreased attention span.
Long term memory is built on repetition and attention. It is entirely plausible that short form media makes you stupider - by impacting your ability for deep learning

A good journalist does not just write for themselves, they must also write for the audience as the audience. They are the readers proxy and ask questions on behalf of the reader.

Look, I’m not saying it’s a great article. But given all the bullshit hype regular people hear about AI. Is it really unreasonable to think “copilot, help me find duplicated files in my one drive” would be something good old Billy would try?
Maybe it’s not a great article because there are better ways to de-duplicate photos. But that isn’t the fucking point of the article. The article is “look at how AI still fucking fails at basic shit we expect it to be good at.”

How is the act of an AI company downloading a copyrighted work and adding it into their “dataset” to generate a summary different from an individual downloading a copyrighted work and adding it to their “dataset” and writing a summary?
Both instances require consuming the material in some way. Both instances generate something new, transformative of the original work.
Why do AI companies get to torrent the entirety of human knowledge, but if any single person does it… Well we know what happened with Napster. Limewire. Kazaa. Megaupload.
Because to me, that hints at a flaw in your logic. AI companies are violating copyright. They had no permission to consume the copyrighted works.
Power is a function of the size of the difference you’re testing for. Idk how to really calculate it accurately, but this site would suggest to discriminate between 7.2% and 7.4% you’d need over 300,000 participants

I can potentially shed some additional insight.
Hear shock proteins are known as chaperones in that they are responsible for chaperoning proteins through the folding process. This process is important because I’m biochemistry (that is the chemistry proteins can do) shape is function. If you can look at the shape of a protein (specifically any site that does chemistry or is responsible for protein protein interactions), you can confidently predict the function of the protein.
Shape is function.
So the heat shock proteins (HSPs), are responsible for chaperoning the shape that dictates function. They derived their name because they were first noticed as being more expressed when you subjected cells to elevated heat ( or a heat shock). Increased temperature can cause proteins to have the wrong shape more easily, so the cells respond by making more chaperones!
The research finds that we get fewer copies of those chaperones once the works were capable of procreating. This suggests that while the observable effects of what we call “aging” can be caused by many things. Aging more generally can be understood as a programmed winding down of our self maintenance machinery.
Of course this is just a lens of viewing it from and may not be a complete picture. But it’s a very useful and productive one.
