This is all speculation on my side but it can’t look into your files or anything. What we call a smartphone today is actually a combination of a very powerful computer and a telephone in the same chassis. The SIM card can do a lot in the phone part of your smartphone: send/receive/process messages, calls, track your location etc. not open and see through your camera though.

I’m still grieving over XMPP. We could have an amazingly decentralized messaging platform. Google even based their own GoogleTalk over XMPP for a while, but a cluster of walled proprietary bullshit services won in the end, and Google layer switched to their own proprietary bullshit.

It was a spam bot swarm a decade ago.
I checked again around 2023, then it was full of human backed fake profiles that pushed cryptocoin scams. It’s called pig butchering.
Today I assume it’s still pog butchering but backed by LLMs instead of people.
I’m not disagreeing with you. I have held the belief that neoclassic theory of economics is bullshit since I studied it 20 years ago. I’m just explaining that bullshit which is still used to measure things like development, progress etc.
Each time money moves: one trade happened. Someone bought, someone sold something. It’s all activity. Money moving around fast: a lot of activity, people getting what they want. Money sitting still: stagnation, no work done, no production etc.
That’s the theory. Of course reality is a bit more complicated. People doing volunteer work is often net positive for humanity but won’t show up in economic metrics.
Losing money in hardware, insurance premiums, increased security are all nice effects though.
uBlock Origin and revanced are still effective at blocking. Sponsorskip (available as a Firefox plugin or built into revanced) even skip sponsored segments inside videos!
Youtube has ads? But seriously, this is hurting the honest user.
More importantly, platforms don’t respect it. Any malicious outside actor shouldn’t be allowed to their malice.

It’s not just AI, it’s integrated electronics in general.
Troops should do something about it. Ideally military higher-ups should do something about it.

Sheer fucking hubris.
That’s right. The user (or administrator if it’s a work machine) installs or removes acceptable certificates into firmware database. Typically a device you buy in the past 15 years or so comes with Microsoft certificates preinstalled, but it doesn’t have to stay like that.
His wealth is mostly imaginary. It’s how much his companies are “valued” in stock exchange. Tesla being worth 6x Toyota or 30x VW makes no logical sense, they no way that kind of sales, but shares get bought and sold at insane numbers.
Now unfortunately, some of that wealth is real, plus imaginary wealth still wields a lot of power.
One of the problems is that a “privacy-respecting solution” that includes a monthly bill is self-defeating. It creates a paper trail.
I told that in the most general sense. You may self-host or rent a VPS, all cost money and maintenance. There is always more private and less private options. But anything run but a volunteer or community or selfhoster wouldn’t data mine to sell ads, that you can be sure.
I can see kids finding ways to circumvent it in a few hours of release.
