Not sure, but I’ll give that a go this weekend when I have some time to play around with it. Many thanks!

Since all of the “Linux is easy” folk are here I’ll ask a question even though I’m not near my PC:
I’m dual booting W11 and ZorinOS, I have 3 drives and only the OS drive mounts at boot. The other 2, games SSD and a storage HDD, have to mounted manually. An online search yielded that this was “expected behaviour” and “how it’s designed to work” but unfortunately it confuses Steam each time I boot because as far as Steam is concerned the drive ceases to exist.
Has anyone else had the same issue? I think I could use crontab to mount the drives at boot but it seems like something that shouldn’t be happening at all.

Do they though? As a side note, I read the documentation for the proposed system of scanning and it was actually really well designed for privacy. The problem was if they were forced to expand the scope to include other material such as, for example, proof of protest against a regime.
That’s great to hear and pretty cool that it can be done as P2P. I’ll definitely give it a go now!
Is screen sharing available for self hosting? Last I checked (6 months ago) the TS server version wasn’t publicly available yet.
If it is I’ll give it another go!
Spacebar sounded really promising when I checked them out years ago.
The big Discord.com features currently left unimplemented or with partial implementations are: Voice/Video support (WebRTC protocol support implemented, but lacking UDP protocol implementation)
Unfortunately, seems like it’s still not at a point where it could cover basic Discord functionality.
Edit: I should be clear, I’m not trying to discourage it. I really hope it succeeds to the goal of parity with Discord! Love to hear from someone who has used it a bit.

I looked into Stoat around the time of their name change announcement.
On the one hand it looks good and is definitely the closest Discord clone at the moment. I was disappointed about a couple of things though:
They have a self hosted server option but it doesn’t have the full feature suite and seems like they’ve decided that it won’t in the foreseeable future.
They’re aware of federation and have no plans to head down that path for the software.
Bit of a shame because if I could self host the full software that’d be pretty damn good as a replacement for all of my friends. If it could be federated in a way where servers could work in tandem that’d be a great distributed alternative to Discord for the entire community! I understand why they’re not pursuing those avenues but it’s still a shame.

That… would actually make a lot of sense.

Not to mention every building in Taiwan is laced with explosives
Be me in a different life, changing a lightbulb in my Taiwanese home. Slip on the ladder and grab the light holder tearing it from the wall. The wiring breaks against the det. cord causing a neighbourhood wide chain reaction that can be seen from space.

I agree. My Plex server is majority 720p with decent bitrate with a lot of 1080p with decent bitrate and a tiny amount of 4K with subpar bitrate (otherwise it’s too large). The 720p is noticeable on the big screen but good luck spotting between 1080p and 4K. It might be different with full 4K Blueray rips but I’m not using 50-80Gb per movie.

To quote an old comment of mine:
Meanwhile Steam is a feature rich platform with a bunch of features that regular C-suite types would never green light because they don’t have a direct ROI.
Direct profit is the main driving factor for decision making by C-suite types. EGS is a great example of this: it has the very bare bones of what constitutes an online store, you can see products and make purchases. Almost everything else is half assed and tacked on. It’s frankly amazing that a system like Steam exists when they could (and still could) enshittify really badly.

I bought some RAM about 6 months ago. It costs me $299AUD for 64Gb, the same set from the same store is now $1,399. That’s an insane increase.
That’s what I want to know too! Did Windows blip out of existence in the UK for a month or something?

The corrupt oligopolists have completely given up on QA
They put “make sure there are no bugs” into their copilot prompt, what else do you want from them?! /s

Insert that meme of the dude with: You get 0.001 more mileage, I get customers with crap door handles.

YouTube popup: What is Tik Tok?
User: A song by Kesha.
YouTube: Alright, let ‘em through.

What’s a good alternative?

Sure bud.

Does it matter? No. Is it annoying? Yes.
I’m already hosting VaultWarden locally and would also like to know. It seems like a project that could continue independently but I’d love to hear from someone with more information.
