Yes, besides Gopher and Gemini, “small web” usually includes traditionally coded HTML+simple CSS+handmade/small JS websites. I.e. websites that are not using a big JS framework or huge amounts of CSS.

“Do you have natural freckles or did you use that shoulder-mounted guided missile prototype again?”

It works in both directions. I’ve been shadowbanned from mastodon.social because one user misinterpreted my comment about something political (related to Germany), reported me and apparently their (German) mod was either lazy or followed the same misinterpretation and shadowbanned me - for life.
And there’s no way to object this as their support only answers to members. Which I am not.

Yep, and an especially fun fact is that people with high-end equipment prefer MP3 over lossless.

But did they use oxygen-free copper (OFC) wire? Because otherwise the results are skewed as regular copper sounds just as bad as a banana stuck in wet mud.

They’re doing test rides already.
Okay, according to this somewhat recent paper, chapter VI, C., static “obstructions” (e.g. buildings) can be put into a model and «precise position estimates» can be calculated «even in obstructed line-of-sight scenarios». Emphasis on “estimates”. But it’s only talking about one obstruction, not multiple in a complex arrangement. But, of course, the more BTSes receive you, the better the prediction.
the radio signal alone, triangulated, will locate you within a meter
I’m pretty sure that only works in perfect conditions, i.e. outside, no obstacles or walls.

But if they’re doing it half-assed as most services (send photo of passport, take a selfie), it won’t be a challenge for AI to generate random IDs and a matching avatar for photo/video verification. The only way this could work is if they’d verify your ID by reading the NFC chip inside the passport or ID card.
Will be interesting to see whether they’re going to introduce it outside of the US.

I hope you’ve edited and then deleted all your comments before closing the account? There are nice scripts for that and it’ll devalue Reddit if there’s less useful information on there.

The problem is that wireless CarPlay works via WiFi. And your car only has 1 wifi module. So, it’s either providing a hotspot or wireless CarPlay. You could try whether it makes a difference connecting your phone via cable.

“You have 20 seconds to comply.”

UI/UX seems to be a nightmare though, plus missing software
I’d be fine with just a shell prompt if there was a usable keyboard to type in commands. Similar to a BlackBerry Classic. I’d just write shell scripts to do all the things I like to do.
I also like the idea behind the Planet Computer devices. But I rarely need to do serious work while out and about nowadays to be willing to lug around such brick.

I believe Infuse has Jellyfin support on Apple TV. But they want like £100 for a lifetime license or £2 a month / £13 a year.

Reminds me of companies that still call themself “startup” even after several years with a successful product. Just so they can rip employees off with low base pay and unpaid overtime because “we’re a startup”.

But what do you do with your Passkey in your password manager if you have to login on another device (you don’t own)?
I’m running a local SearXNG which still provides usable results. I don’t see the point in paying for what’s basically a smart phone book. If everything fails, I’m going full #oldweb and use #webrings or some of those retro lists.

Even better: YouTube still provides RSS feeds. You can “subscribe” to your favourite channels by adding them to your RSS reader.
And for desktop, there’s also FreeTube.
My gateway drug was turning my HP laptop into a Hackintosh. However, as you say you’re “not a techy person”, you’ll probably want to buy a working Macbook - as you suggested.
Best would be going to some Apple store and trying out the different models (the cheaper “Neo” and the normal “Air”) and sizes and see what feels okay for you. Once you have it, try to use the Safari browser where you can as other browsers might wreck the battery runtime. And remember: There’s a BSD underneath, so many commandline tools you know from the Linux world work there, too. (Make sure to check out Homebrew!)
