If you do use GrapheneOS, quickly restarting the device means your pin is required before biometrics unlock is available. As I understand it – in the U.S. – law enforcement can legally compel you to unlock your phone with biometrics, but not a pin. Not that you can trust law enforcement to be law abiding, but at least it’s a stronger case in court.
“Naive” doesn’t sit right with me. Anyone can scrutinize LUKS, or BitLocker for that matter (via cryptsetup). Backdoors aren’t the issue here, even for MS Bitlocker. The issue, as stated in the article, is:

It’s easy-- if you install on a single drive. If you want home on a separate drive, encryption is not so easy, and you have to learn about cryptsetup, crypttab, etc. Quite a steep learning curve compared to the installer. I do hope distros provide better coverage of this in the future. Having home on a separate drive and encrypted is just good practice.
Agreed. Week 2, switching browser and search is a couple steps and seems like a good on-ramp to build momentum. Week 1, switching email and calendar is several steps per step and requires some consideration and even paying into a new service.

Agreed. Would be great if we could save old backups on a server and search it from a client, instead of the current option of keeping everything in one local backup. The latter is a real problem after a while if you have contacts that like sending videos.
If you’re interested, the linux unplugged podcast had a recent episode on their experiences. I’ve never loved the tone of “hey, look, this is inevitable” when it comes to ai, but I can see its utility when well-scoped with conservative permissions and oversight vs letting it loose or vibe coding. Now if only hardware wasn’t artificially inflated I might think it was worth dabbling locally.
