I more meant why
I guessed you meant that you see people rallying against genAI as foolish so you’re glad to not associate with people like that, but people making snarky comments can reference a whole lot of shit I don’t understand

And it seems odd to presume he would be since he didn’t return to Twitter presumably so Truth Social is differentiated by having access to his posts as a way to increase usage

What do you mean?

Ahaha. I’m not even bitching about that. I’m doing that pedantic thing that physics teachers do where they point out the number without the units isn’t correct
That said, if the US just used SI units…

Only a handful of countries use Fahrenheit, but they’re still too arrogant to add the unit. I get not including Celsius because of the target audience, and dropping the unit in conversation but this isn’t that
I double checked the indicator in finder and the command line before posting this and, both said download. As far as I can tell, my iPhone uploads the backup to iCloud, then my mac downloads it. I see no use in the mac downloading it once let alone for every Whatsapp backup the iPhone makes. After the download is complete, I can find the files in the Whatsapp iCloud directory

Oh? Any chance you can point to something about these local governments hosting fediverse instances? I just did a quick search but didn’t see anything

From Wikipedia, not quite but I learnt so something, so thanks:
CoMaps is a community-driven, free and open-source, offline navigation app that uses map data from OpenStreetMap (OSM)
The CoMaps project was initiated in response to growing concerns and dissatisfaction within the Organic Maps community. The original Organic Maps project, while initially promoted as an open community effort, faced significant issues related to governance, transparency, and the potential for shareholder profit at the expense of the community.

What you wrote reminded me of a minor idea that’s been floating in my head: I kind of wish that more governments did something like requiring adding your business to OpenStreetMaps as part of registering the business with the government, or even just publishing the basic data (location, opening hours, …) somewhere that all the maps apps sync with

Yeah, its a bit jarring

Oh yeah, I didn’t intend my comment to say that this specific app makes sense, just that some can

That’s looking better than last time I saw it, but I’m pretty confused by your point.
If it had a large number of users adding and reading reviews then wouldn’t it have the same issues?

Agreed, but I think it’s also common for people to anthropomorphise these things and common for these chatbots to reinforce and support their users views. I think that’s a problem for more people than just those struggling through disorders or an emotionally turbulent time. But I think those people are particularly vulnerable to the flaws, even with functioning mental health and a strong support network. But yeah, a lot of these pieces dramatise and anthropomorphise in ways that aren’t necessarily helpful

From the US government, I completely agree. But a functional government helps and supports its citizens and there are plenty of ways an app on your phone can help. Admittedly that’s pretty ideological, but at the very least I’d argue there is a spectrum

That’s a hell of a title

How it functionally works, its the next word / token / chunk a lot more than its an “idea”. An idea is even rough to define
The other relatively accurate analogy is a probabilistic database
Neither work if you’ve fallen into anthropomorphising, but they’re relatively accurate to architecture and testing for people that aren’t too computer literate, far more than the anthropomorphising alternatives at least

When you talk to a large language model, you can think of yourself as talking to a character
But who exactly is this Assistant? Perhaps surprisingly, even those of us shaping it don’t fully know
Fuck me that’s some terrifying anthropomorphising for a stochastic parrot
The study could also be summarised as “we trained our LLMs on biased data, then honed them to be useful, then chose some human qualities to map models to, and would you believe they align along a spectrum being useful assistants!?”. They built the thing to be that way then are shocked? Who reads this and is impressed besides the people that want another exponential growth investment?
To be fair, I’m only about 1/3rd of the way through and struggling to continue reading it so I haven’t got to the interesting research but the intro is, I think, terrible

Where are you hearing it so much? (And ideally can you describe it in a little more detail than saying it’s crypto bros again?)

This is the data (charted) that they’re using to make the claim:

Some methodology:
C-BARQ behaviour data for all 12 sub-scales were collected in March 2023 via an online questionnaire of owners of Cockapoo, Labradoodle, Cavapoo, Cocker Spaniel, Labrador Retriever, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle dogs acquired aged ≤16 weeks from 1st January 2019. C-BARQ scores were analysed using multivariable linear modelling. Valid responses were received representing 9,402 dogs. From 72 behavioural comparisons overall

Doesn’t BlackSky show that “one person” power isn’t the same because of the architectural differences? But yeah, the company makes moderation calls that are centralised. Ironically my biggest issue is with the lack of something like community notes or even something more centralised to limit misinformation
