  • I’ve been on it for a bit over a year now and honestly, it’s just the new normal. Can’t really say I miss anything, and things like the separate profiles are pretty neat.

Although, I have bricked myself once by enabling developer settings and accidentally changing my language to a dev-only language that made the os crash on boot. But the Graphene Devs fixed it and unbricked my phone within a week after I posted the problem to the forum.

  • All the suggestions in this thread are good, but for anyone who doesn’t want to self-host or change providers entirely (because changing your email is an absolute pain in the ass):

At least get a different mail client. You don’t have to use the official Gmail App to access Gmail! I personally really like FairEmail, because it’s open source, has no unnecessary bells and whistles, and just works. It takes less than 5mins to download it and move Gmail over there completely, with no risk of losing any data or missing any mails.

  • Eh, I see no reason to switch to a dumb phone, because I don’t think I’m that bad with my current phone. My main User profile on GrapheneOS is pretty minimal when it comes to apps, it’s mostly messaging, banking, navigation, workout and music (I should probably move Lemmy and Pixelfed to a different profile, but they both have pretty little potential for scrolling for too long since the new content is naturally limited).
The only game on this profile is the one I’m developing as a hobby project lol

All the annoying Apps (Secondary Email, Amazon, Aliexpress, Linkedin, Smartlife, Grocery store coupon apps etc) are banished to a secondary profile that has no permission to run in the background or send any notifications.
