I believe he said if this fails, he’s done since it’s just been too much work. Then he managed to get a million signatures to be seen in front of eu parliament, so he’s back in it.

Well in that case would you also be against affirmative action? I would also say that’s racist, but I also want the perspectives of other ethnicities, who likely grew up differently, when decisions are made. I think discrimination is sometimes just a necessary evil.

In this case the effect is so serious that you don’t really have a good option. It would be like if specifically Asian people were joining Uber trying to sexually assault men, I would probably do something to allow men to avoid Asians. It’s absolutely racist but at least I’m massively reducing the sexual assaults. The reason this doesn’t apply to race as much is almost every time something was blamed on race it was just a lie or completely misrepresented.

I think it’s just not having people in your life telling you how bad it is. I have a friend who changed her name on Facebook to avoid stalkers, something I wouldn’t have even thought of at all. It still feels bad when I feel like she (subconsciously) feels scared being around me though, I don’t want to make people afraid by just existing.

People will agree amazon is evil and needs to have less power but say it’s too convenient and cheap. They’ll say apple is too powerful while buying every new iPhone. I watch people who say I’m privileged spend more money than I do on everything from food to entertainment. Most people really don’t care about enacting their principles, if it means giving up anything or spending 2 minutes of effort. Is what it is I guess.

idk with the old shorts this was more true, but now if it’s like a quick tips thing or just a preview of a longer video, so long as you’re not scrolling shorts and only scarcely engage with the more informative ones, they seem to have a place. Youtube pushes them to be infinitely scrolled clickbait garbage though so that’s probably the experience for 95% of people.

On codecs and bitrate? It’s basically codec = file type (.avi, .mp4) and bitrate is how much data is sent per second for the video. Videos only track what changed between frames, so a video of a still image can be 4k with a really low bitrate, but if things are moving it’ll get really blurry with a low bitrate even in 4k.

I think any vegan who is at least somewhat sane would say squishing an ant is not the same as killing a cow, because one is clearly more sentient and capable of experiencing suffering than the other. Obviously you don’t want to do either of them, and yes overpopulation and food waste causes us to kill enormous amounts of insects and wildlife. But I also don’t advocate for increasing the human population and try to waste absolutely 0 food because I know the impact it has. Buying food locally from non-factory farms is also much better, vegan or not.

It’s also true that animals consume and require MUCH more resources than just eating the plants ourselves, so even under that framing we are still doing significantly more harm because now we have to grow extra food, have space for these animals, and deal with the extra emissions from feeding/giving water/transport.

I absolutely can’t support myself nor anyone else with some backyard gardening, that’s definitely true. But with 2 people doing it in our leisure time, we reduced how often we have to buy any foods by about 40% by having ~8 fruit trees, 10 raised beds, and a freezer. Obviously this isn’t 0 harm because we do need a fence and sometimes have to trap and release some animals, but it is possible and not infeasable to feed a neighborhood by gardening like this, and it’s been done in many neighborhoods already.

You definitely can not exist without causing harm, and meat is not the ONLY negative thing to reduce, it’s just the most obvious and requires the least amount of legislature to actually reduce the harm from it. If we had a much smaller amount of cows that only ate the waste, that were humanely slaughtered, I think most vegans still be sad about it but not be nearly as upset, and meat would be a special thing rather than a staple.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people legitimately do not see fish as more than objects, and I mean they never fully made the connection not that they do it intentionally.

I agree! so we should try to get locally grown food without pesticides and then people can stop coping. Somehow my family manages to grow food without it and if there’s a bug we just dust it off into the grass. People who freak out over a little bug or fruit that’s not totally perfect are actually part of the problem.

It’s pure cope to say “I can’t avoid causing suffering so me making a deliberate choice to cause MORE suffering to animals that are the same intelligence as my dog is actually fine.”
