I do this and download it to local storage. It’s all DRM free and I can stream it myself with Jellyfin or throw it on a USB stick to play in my car. Even if Apple goes belly-up or something they can’t revoke that access.

I also have 300+ CDs though.

Ignoring the de-Googled phones for a sec: I assume if you’re using a desktop, then the QR shows up and you have to drag out your phone to scan it in the camera app that then prompts to open the google play store. Dumb, but possible for people who have a phone with Android. What about those that don’t? Would you need a google account?

Now if it’s all on phone (using Chrome or Firefox or whatever) and pops up a QR code, you can’t scan it… but the browser would have to open the play store directly and thats a huge security no-no. The browser shouldn’t even know I have the Play Store.

I have a feeling the hundreds of us that are de-Googled ad just going to stop using these sites all together.

Meatbags are expensive and require frequent maintenance by specialists as well… theres a reason why sick leave and vacations are a thing.

And i’ve been surprised by Claude. It’s not there yet, but its getting better at problem solving. I’m pretty anti-AI, but I can see it getting better and applied to things robots do on the daily while people still do the development and solutioneering and arts and such.

From my time in the industry, I can say most are probably 25-75% overstaffed for their current requirements, but not for their current dreams. They invent projects they think will do something and hire for that, but it doesn’t align with the work they should or need to be doing. Their dreams aren’t always valid or rooted in reality within their experience and market niche.

So you get the wrong staff for the job you need to do because you staffed for what you wanted to do and end up with more people needing to do jobs they don’t have the knowledge or experience for trying to use AI to fill that gap.

You get an inefficient work force and end up having to cut the wrong things to make the line keep going up in unsustainable ways. The pressure to make line go up often gets in the way of making the line more consistent. And it often gets in the way of that dream that maybe could have worked if you gave it the time it needed to bake before giving up to make the board happy.

Minus the “Feed the Data to AI”, this is as it always has been. Never use company computers for personal work and if you have to use a company guest network, use a VPN, etc…

The only part that’s new here is the AI and I guarantee any company these people move to will do the same thing.

Honestly, this is how we’re going overall it seems. They’ll just throw it into a government funding bill and then be like “don’t you want to pay the air traffic controllers?”

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter WHO is doing the hacking. A bad actor took over a large number of routers to do their bidding.

Honestly, nah. The screen is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but the fact that I had to replace the main board after 1.5yrs, just out of warranty, means I definitely recommend people don’t buy it. Luckily I found someone on eBay that dropped theirs, shattered the screen, and sold the internal boards for $50 shipped.

I only brought it up because it fits the requirements and I recommend the format. 4k 43"+ or 8k is goated on desktop.

I’ve got a 43" Aorus 4k gaming screen for my desktop. 144Hz, freesync, 2 HDMI’s a DisplayPort and a USBC. There is a 48" OLED as well, but I didn’t have the space for it at the time.

After using a 4k 43" for a monitor for a few years, I definitely both recommend it AND wish companies would make 8k ones.

Well, I might not want a TV… all I really want is a 60"+ high quality, high refresh rate, 4k+ panel to game, work and watch media on…

The only thing that makes it a TV IS the tuner… and honestly it’s not bad to have in an emergency or for local OTA stuff anyway. If I never use it then having it doesn’t matter.

Cheaper and easier to upgrade the constellation to newer and faster tech. If you have backwards compatibility, you just start launching v2 and v1 will eventually just burn up, and hopefully finish just in time for v3 to start launching so you only have to be compatible with n-1 versions.

Yeah, it’s all so ambiguous. I switched to them because they were better made and cheaper than the Netgear I was forced to replace after 1.5yrs. It’ll be interesting to see where this ends up. Probably lawsuits. Glad I’m already set for a while, I guess.

Ubiquiti is an American company, not sure if the tech is really MADE here though, seems like that’d be weird considering the components are all made outside the US anyway.

My 2013 MBP is still at 8GB. With memory compression, I rarely run into issues unless I’m doing VMs/Docker or something really heavy.

The kind of people that fall for this probably has a good overlap with those sick of the “upgrade!!!” Windows Popups.
