  • “Spending” is doing a lot of work here. That’s not how the national debt works. Spending would imply that there is money changing hands.

Even with regular consumer debt no one is “spending” money on interest if they aren’t paying their credit card bill.

You can think of the US debt as more of a “bet” on the US economy and it’s military. As long as their is faith in those things the US isn’t “paying interest”. The only time the “national debt” would matter is if the power and stability are put into question. And, when that happens, it won’t matter if the debt is $1 million or $1000 trillion. The world economy will crumble.

The only reason they try to mention this “debt” like it’s some loan we are trying to pay back is so they have something to point at when they cut your social security and Medicare to raise the military budget. It’s not something that is actually being paid in interest every month.

  • That’s part of educating them. I’m not saying I have the answer on how best to reach them. But I know sitting back and saying “they can’t even understand that <X>” is not working.

We may need real material decline or militant attacks from the state to radicalize them. But, as that continues to happen, we can’t have leadership in the “performative” groups just filled with liberals.

We need to have influence in these far reaching groups like DSA or whatever wine mom groups organize to join “No Kings”. They don’t need criticism that tells them what they are doing is “not enough”. That just leads to inaction. They are not ready to risk their job and treats to do that. They need direction when they lose their jobs. They need direction when they lose their treats.

Yes, it’s fucking pathetic that these stupid liberals are doing nothing as people are hurt. You don’t have to like them. You can be mad at how useless they are. But its our job to literally put ourselves in these organizations to lead them (and we are not). Yelling at them will not change them.

It’s great if you’re in your local Marxist organization or PSL or whatever. But we don’t build these groups by hoping liberals “see the light” and come to us. It’s our job to go to where the masses are. And whether that results in Marxist organizations growing and people leaving the Democrats or DSA for more radical organizations. Or, if those organizations themselves become more radicalized because of our presence in them. Both are progress. And we are NOT doing that enough.

Sometimes you have to wait until liberals are asking the right questions for them to be ready to accept the answers. And that likely means their material conditions declining. But we need to be in positions of leadership to be able to give those answers. We can’t just scream at them from our tiny groups that they have never heard of.

  • I agree. But, please, as a rule of thumb, when you make comments like this please end them to direct people for MORE action not less. I think we spend too much time criticizing without directing to action. The criticism is correct. But is useless without a direction to actually enact change.

Something as small as placing leftist literature in your local bookshare dropoff, to organizing a tenants/workplace union, working with mutual aids, learning your neighbors names, joining DSA or PSL for meetings to get your foot in the door, etc.

We can’t critize liberals for going outside without directing them where else to go. It’s just doomerism at that point.

One thing I did was ask my friends to join ONE other protest or organization with me between the last “No Kings” and today’s. Only had one actually join me. But they’ve been more active since.

Use these events as opportunities to EXPAND organizing. Don’t just offer criticism that essentially is just telling them what they are doing is useless and they should stay home. That’s not how we get more people organizing.

We don’t go from what we have now to an armed vanguard pushing ICE out of our cities in a single leap. We do lots of stupid “performative” shit to spread leftist agit-prop. These protest are an opportunity to do that.

The biggest failure of these no Kings protest is not on the liberals. It’s on our complete inability to radicalize them. WE as Marxist are failing THEM. It’s our job to educate them.

  • In a world where there was a Nazi state trying to convince right wingers that “the Jews control everything” I don’t think most people could tell a difference between that and the Zionist in Washington and Israel.

Like, I can because I pay attention; and understand the historical means that have lead us to this abomination and perversion of the Jewish faith being entirely associated with an apartheid ethnostate.

But, fuck me, it’s like they are trying to confirm every Nazi stereotype of Jews.

I’m convinced at this point that the Zionism is just a means of justifying the creation of all states being ethnostates. Which, is exactly what the Nazis wanted to begin with.

It’s just so hard to explain the relationship of western capitalist interest that have formed the ethnostate of Israel to begin with. How they expanded it’s initial colonial project using the Holocaust as a means of justification. It takes so much effort to actually try to explain any of this to someone.

They need to understand class struggle, Imperialism, colonialism, racism, etc.

It is just exhausting to combat Antisemitism at this point. Israel and the US are essentially doing everything in their power to fuel it.

The US using antisemitism to target anti Zionist as a means to destroy all decent within its fascist state. Well, that’s just fucking expected at this point.

I hate this reality we live in.

  • Maybe because it’s not your job to write comments that reach the most amount of people?

I’m so confused about this “blame the individual” thing around social media platforms Monopoly on user capture.

There is a reason Monopolies have to be torn apart by governments. You don’t just organically have individuals fix that by leaving the public square. You remove the censorship and capitalist dictatorship that is controlling what is seen in the public square.

You have the luxury of leaving them. It’s not your job to reach out to the most amount of people with your messages.

  • It’s not. Because despite the Nazis returning to Twitter after Elon bought it it is still the website used by journalist and political commentators to get their message to the most eyes. Should it be? No. But that doesn’t make it any less true.

You post on Truth social if you’re a MAGA nut. Twitter is still filled with the most people to reach out to and will be for the foreseeable future.

It’s the very reason a platform like that should not be privately owned. Hoping “the market” somehow removes its monopoly on user capture and scale is silly. And blaming people that still use it to reach the most people is even more silly. You meet the people where they are at.

You don’t put your poster in a clean hotel most people won’t see. You post it the dirty public square. That public square is owned by a Nazi capitalist though. So pointing that out and complaining about it is more than reasonable.
